The state of Rio Grande do Sul also has many attractions for international travelers.
Part of the state is flat, and perfect for raising cattle. It is the land of the Pampas and the mounted Gaucho, with his traditional Gaucho garb and Chimarron mate tea gourd.
And of course this is the home of the churrasco and the unending barbecue rodizio restaurants, also called espeto corrido in this region.
The natives of Rio Grande do Sul are all designated as the Gauchos. And most are very fond of the mate tea and churrasco barbecued meat.
The state is both agriculture and industrially oriented, and the city of Porto Alegre, capital of the state, has some of the finest Brazilian industries.
There is also a hilly region called the Serra Gaucha where the weather is similar to some European regions, and therefore it is favorable for the production of very good wines. There are several small cities located in this region such as Caxias do Sul, Bento Goncalves, Farroupilha, Canela and Gramado.
A visit to the Itaimbezinho Canion is also recommended when you are in this region.
